Metso has signed an agreement to deliver critical process equipment—including pumps—for Jinnan Iron & Steel Group’s greenfield iron ore concentrator plant in Sohar, a port city located roughly 200 km north of Oman’s capital, Muscat.
As part of the grinding circuit, Metso will supply multiple Vertimill® VTM-4500 mills and ball mills equipped with metallic liners, providing a combined installed power of approximately 25 MW. For the beneficiation circuit, the order includes five HRT High Rate Thickeners featuring Reactorwell™ feed technology and six Larox® FFP3512 filters for concentrate dewatering.
Metso will also provide an extensive slurry pump package covering the entire process flow, including Metso MD Series mill discharge pumps, to support efficient material handling throughout the plant.
Once operational in 2027, the facility will have a production capacity of 12.6 million tonnes of high-grade iron ore concentrate per year, strengthening Oman’s position as a key supplier of Direct Reduction (DR) grade iron ore on the global stage.
“This project represents Jinnan’s inaugural venture in Oman—an emerging mining hub with abundant mineral resources and a national strategy focused on economic diversification through mining development,” said Piia Karhu, President of Minerals at Metso. “As a trusted provider of mineral processing technology and services worldwide, Metso is proud to partner with Jinnan Iron & Steel Group on this landmark project.”
