Amarinth Completes Pump Upgrade Project for ADNOC Gas

Amarinth has successfully completed a pump modification project for ADNOC Gas, a leading integrated gas processing company in Abu Dhabi, UAE. ADNOC Gas operates over 3,000 km of pipeline networks and 26 processing trains, meeting around 60% of the UAE’s natural gas needs and serving customers in over 20 countries.

The project involved upgrading four API 610 VS4 vertical pumps, originally supplied by Amarinth more than a decade ago. These pumps have performed reliably since installation but required modifications due to changes in process conditions that introduced heavier particulate loading in the fluid, posing a risk to line shaft bearings.

Amarinth’s solution included the integration of remote bearing temperature monitoring and flush systems to mitigate the risks of bearing clogging and lubrication starvation. Advanced Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), encased in stainless steel for protection against hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) corrosion, were installed to monitor bearing temperatures in real time.

The data collected is transmitted through the pump’s baseplate to a centralized dashboard, enabling remote monitoring. If bearing temperatures exceed a critical threshold, the system automatically shuts down the pump and activates a flush process to prevent overheating and minimize potential damage.

This approach provides significant operational advantages, including enhanced safety and reliability through real-time monitoring, reduced maintenance downtime, and extended pump life.

Amarinth designed, tested, and delivered the upgraded pumps within just 20 weeks and offered an optional installation service to ADNOC Gas. The upgraded pumps are currently being piloted, with ADNOC Gas evaluating the potential to apply this solution across its fleet of VS4 pumps at multiple sites.

Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, commented: “We are proud to support ADNOC, a valued long-term partner, with this upgrade project. Our remote bearing temperature monitoring and flush system demonstrates our commitment to delivering tailored, cost-effective solutions that evolve with our customers’ needs. By enhancing pump performance without the need for new installations, we’ve further solidified our relationship with ADNOC as their trusted partner of choice.”
