Rotork’s New CKQ Part-turn Variant

The innovative Rotork CK range of modular electric valve actuators has been extended to include a new part-turn variant, known as the CKQ. The entire range has a modular design that provides flexibility and high degrees of configurability, enabling a fast order turnaround and quick delivery. CK actuators provide flow control in non-hazardous locations and are especially suited for diverse applications in the water and power markets.

This new part-turn variant is especially well suited for harsh and demanding environments and has an operational temperature range of -30 °C to +70 °C (-22 °F to +158 °F). The IP68 enclosure protection is maintained even when the actuator terminal housing is removed (by using a double-sealing system around both parts of the plug and socket connection). This contributes to its ideal suitability for use within the water market. Continuous mechanical valve position indication is provided (even without power) and the CKQ provides up to 60 starts per hour at a rate up to 1 start every 6 seconds. All options within the CK range provide oil bath lubrication for extended life, mounting in any orientation and motor-independent handwheel operation available.

The modular structure of actuators in the CK range means a wide variety of options and features are available. This includes the CK Standard actuator, the sophisticated Centronik (for intelligent, integral control) and the Atronik option for intermediate modest and robust control. The flexibility of these options within the CK range allows customers a variety of choices for all their flow control requirements. The diverse applications that CK actuators serve means customers have access to many robust flow control options that will perform in all situations, meeting exact user requirements.

Since the launch of the CK range, they have been successfully introduced globally. Recent examples include:

  • Rotork CK actuators were retrofitted to replace obsolete actuators on the Mesilla Dam in the Elephant Butte Irrigation District at La Cruces, New Mexico, USA. The actuators control and regulate the water level to provide irrigation control; they were a reliable and economical solution.
  • Nearly 100 CK actuators now control the flow of wastewater at the Ergene Basin Deep Marine Discharge Project, which is one of the longest sea discharge lines in Europe, starting in the city of Tekirdag and serving the Turkish capital Istanbul. They provide an environmentally friendly and safe solution for the disposal of final effluent.
  • Over 700 Rotork CK actuators were installed at a large wastewater treatment plant in Guangdong, China. Installed on gate valves at new sewage treatment plants, they control the flow of raw sewage in and out of the sewage interceptors, where contaminants are separated from the wastewater. 100,000 tonnes of wastewater is processed every day.
  • Nearly 80 CKc actuators will soon be installed at a new housing development in Bahrain. The actuators will be operating butterfly and needle valves at the site’s water distribution centre and associated pipelines. These essential water facilities are part of a development of thousands of new homes in central Bahrain.
