Sulzer’s pumps support sustainable aviation fuel production in China

Sulzer’s advanced pump technology has been chosen by a leading company in China’s chemical and energy sectors to support Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, aligning with the country’s carbon neutrality goals.

SAF, derived from renewable feedstocks, meets stringent aviation standards while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. The new facility in Shandong, China, aims to produce 500,000 metric tons of SAF annually, enough to power over 4,400 flights from Shanghai to destinations like Vancouver or Rome, with a significantly lower environmental impact.

Sulzer is supplying tailored pump systems capable of handling high-pressure and high-temperature processes essential for refining low-carbon feedstocks.

Jan Lueder, President of Sulzer’s Flow Division, stated, “Our resilient pump solutions are engineered to deliver peak efficiency in demanding industries. This partnership underscores our dedication to energy security and sustainable transition, offering solutions that make a real environmental difference and set a precedent for future energy needs.”

Executive Chairwoman Suzanne Thoma added, “We are honored to assist our client in minimizing carbon emissions in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. As a strategic enabler of key industries, we aim to connect economic growth with sustainable development and are excited to see our technology drive the transition toward greener fuel options.”
