Sumitomo Expands Mining Sector Presence with Acquisition of Major Pump Rental Company in Indonesia

Sumitomo Corporation has acquired 100% of PT Resource Equipment Indonesia (REL), a prominent rental company specializing in large pumps for mining sites across Indonesia, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Aver Asia (S) Pte Ltd.

This acquisition allows Aver Asia to expand into the mining sector, gaining expertise in large pump rentals and a new customer base. By leveraging its existing construction equipment fleet, Aver Asia plans to grow its presence in the high-potential Indonesian market and contribute to the broader regional market as part of the Aver Asia Group.

Sumitomo’s strategy for its construction equipment business emphasizes regional growth, product diversification, and expanding its customer base. The company first entered the world’s largest construction equipment rental market in 2009 with an investment in Sunstate in the U.S. It further expanded in Southeast Asia in 2020 through the acquisition of Aver Asia, which operates construction equipment rental and sales across six countries from its Singapore base.
