Sulzer has announced the launch of the world’s biggest medium-consistency pump, the MCE93-400, which has been built in response to customer demand for bigger production rates in pulp mills.
The pumping of liquids with a high dry solids content – medium consistency – is essential for processes in the pulp and paper industry.
In recent years, production rates have spiralled. As a result, Sulzer developed the MCE93-400 for a customer project with record-breaking values.
The capacity of the pump reaches up to 10,000 air dry metric tonnes per day with the flow up to 940 l/s and the head up to 180 m. The MCE pump is designed for a pressure rating of 25 bar.
Jussi Heinonen, product manager for MC equipment at Sulzer, said: “The new MCE93-400 has been designed to operate efficiently, saving energy, water and chemical costs in pulp and paper mill processes. The innovative design features of the pump minimise its life cycle costs.”
The first big MCE pumps have been dispatched to a major pulp manufacturer in South America.
