Danish water technology company Grundfos is advancing its sustainability efforts by utilizing Maersk’s electric trucks for container transport between its factory and the Port of Aarhus, Denmark.
Since October 2024, the pilot program has been in operation, with plans to scale up to 600–800 container shipments annually. This initiative builds on Grundfos’ existing commitment to sustainable logistics, as the company was among the first to adopt Maersk’s Eco Delivery Ocean product. By using a mix of waste-based biodiesel and bio-methanol, Grundfos has already reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% for its ocean freight. Now, with the addition of electric road transport, direct tailpipe emissions are entirely eliminated, as the trucks operate exclusively on renewable electricity.
“After reducing emissions in ocean freight, we wanted to take the next step and cut emissions in pre-carriage and last-mile container transport,” said Dirk Van Der Heijden, Senior Director of Global Logistics at Grundfos. “The successful deployment of EV trucks in Denmark sets a strong case for international expansion. With climate challenges intensifying, we must take action wherever possible. As producers and exporters, we are committed to driving decarbonization in the supply chain and are pleased to collaborate with Maersk in pioneering sustainable logistics solutions.”
